Winter 2009

Great trip to Aiken, SC with seven competitions in six weeks!!
We took eight horses, four riders, one dog, and two campers to Aiken, SC to ride, train, and live in the warmth! The weather was good and the footing was not frozen so we rode and could school cross country at Full Gallop Farm everyday!

The crew at Aiken

Unloading the crew in Aiken SC!

On our last evening in Aiken, our friend Beth Harpham invited us to a Mojito good bye dinner. We had fresh margaritas and mojitos made by Marsha and enjoyed by all! Sarah Fletcher came by to celebrate and say see you again! Thank you Beth for a great visit and such wonderful hospitality! Thank you all for a great Aiken trip!

Farewell Mojitos

Farewell Mojitos in Aiken.

Home from Aiken and over to New York City!!
We took a break from the horses and headed to New York City with Slyvie Edouard, Ashley Steele, Kaity Taylor, and Heather Hornung!

New York City

After Aiken, SC, we went to NYC. Here we are on the Central Park Carousel.

As seen in the photo above, the gang is at Central Park taking a ride, on, well, horses!! They toured the Empire State Building, caught the lights and action on Times Square, had lunch in Central Park, rode the subway, and headed back on the train! What a whirlwind visit and so much fun!

Pine Top Spring HT February 27, 2009

Jane jumped on UN at Pine Top Intermediate! UN scored a 34.5 in dressage and clean sj. The cross country was cancelled due to torrential rains so UN placed 5th overall in the test!

Island Rumba

A great pose for the camera of Island Rumba, 5 yo 17.1 hands homebred Tb mare and Marsha Zebley at Rumba's first novice HT.

Sporting Days Farm Jumping Derby, February 18, 2009
For the Sporting Days Jumping Derby, Slyvie Edouard rode Island Rumba in her first Baby Novice combined test. Slyvie is visiting from France and she was thrilled to do a nice dressage test and a clean show jumping to win her division! Slyvie worked hard and improved her riding and knowledge. She schooled cross country and walked all of the courses. She will return to France with many great memories! It was so much fun to introduce her to SC and all of the American eventing scene!

Full Gallop Winter HT, February 11, 2009
Heather Hornung entered Full Gallop Farm's Horse Trials II and was thrilled with the opportunity to compete. Her big moving TB gelding scored well in dressage and jumped a clean sj but wanted another peek at the water jump! We will do more x-c schooling before her next HT!

Full Gallop Farm HT February 3rd thru 4, and Sporting Days HT February 7 & 8, 2009
Plentyoffight (Rocky) and Dubonnet started the group with Full Gallop Farm's novice horse trials with Marsha Zebley riding. Dressage in the 30's, clean x-c, and show jumping earned a 4th and 5th! They returned to the competitions at Sporting Days HT February 7 & 8 joined by UN going training level. Marsha had a good show and learned a good deal with dressage in the 30's, clean x-c, and one rail in sj to place with UN and Dubonnet in the training level.

Fox Crossing Jumper Show January 11, 2009
We took seven horses and five students to the jumper show at Fox Crossing. We didn't let a little ice and snow deter us as the day warmed up and the indoor had good footing! And what a good school before we leave for Aiken and an excellent preview for students staying here for the winter and participating in the winter jumper series!

Classic Garden, the attractive 5 yo Tb. chestnut gelding of Marsha Zebley's had two good rounds: jumping clean for a 3rd place at 2'6'' and another confident, clean ride at 3' for 5th place. Marsha was very pleased with her young horse and is looking forward to the trip to Aiken, SC.

Emily Della Fera on Parkmore got her act together during her 2'6'' course and showed her dad how to 'flow over the course' in the 3' division with a double clear and 5th place! She'll be working this winter with Ashley Steele and Amanda Csoltko on her Tooey with the winter series. Amanda jumped two clear rides with a good time score to finish 3rd with Tooey in the 2'6'' division and again at the 3' division. Her mom and grand mom came to cheer and keep up the warm spirits! She's working on going forward from her heels and keeping her eyes on what's next! Marsha Zebley rode Island Rumba, a lovely 5 yo homebred Tb mare bred by Sharon Clark of Rigbie Farm. Rumba is a good 16.3 hands and really worked on her balance and stepping under to jump three clear rounds at the 2'6'' height. She won a 4th placed and a 3rd, showing her powerful jump and improving her relaxation. Rumba will learn a good deal in Aiken and she is a looker!! Come meet her!

It was Ashley's turn with her Canadian warmblood gelding who is four years old. Wynton is a good 17 hands and he flowed around the courses, making good turns and balancing up with his powerful rear end! He was 5th in his first double clear at 2'6'' and won the best of the day win for 2nd place at his second 2'6'' class. Ashley had a huge smile on her face as she helped all of the students organize their horses. She did a good job riding and an even better job managing the seven horses!

Rocky, 'Plentyoffight', came off the van next and he was animated! He told us that he was next and he was going clean! Marsha rode him in the 3' division and jumped double clear for a 3rd place! Then our new working student from France, Sylvie Edouard worked Rocky with some dressage to encourage him to relax and soften. Another good job and she'll accompany us to Aiken!

Dubonnet was the last horse on course at the 3'3'' level and jumped a clean round. On the jump off he tapped one rail and placed 2nd overall. He was more relaxed and jumped well. Marsha was the jockey and she's eager to compete him at the novice and training levels in Aiken! These horses are all for sale so give the For Sale Page a good look and come see us in Aiken!

The next Fox Crossing Jumper Show is February 8th for Ashley, Amanda, and Emily! Watch this space! And we'll keep you up to date with our competitions in Aiken. Check out the new 2009 schedule!!

Plantation Starter Horse Trials November 1, 2008
We had nine horses competing at the final event of the season, Plantation Starter HT!! The weather was gorgeous and there were 240 entries so we had a great time with everyone!

Rocky started us out with a good dressage test for his first Training event. He earned a 40.5 with a score of 7 on his movement and Marsha Zebley earned a 7 with her position! They jumped a clean show jumping and a clean cross country! Marsha rode him eagerly to the water and we jumped it the first try! Rocky finished 4th overall at his first training!

Dubonnet was Marsha's next ride in the training division. They had a fluid dressage test to score a 35.5. The show jumping was the challenge as Dubonnet got his canter stride a little long and he passed the show jump to earn a refusal! They jumped a clean x-c and the pair placed 4th overall. Marsha gave her horse to our excellent groom Ashley Steele and she ran around the novice x-c course to see where her next ride was going!

Kaity Taylor rode her Freddy in the Baby Novice Horse and scored a 40.0. Her parents came out to cheer the pair to a clean show jumping and they had one refusal on the x-c to place 10th overall. A fun day for this soon to be four year old Tb. and his college student! Marsha rode Classic Garden for a lovely test with 35.5, had some steering trouble in show jumping to have a refusal, and had a very positive cross country ride with a clean go! Her four year old Tb. had a great outing at the novice level! Check out his jumping form in the photo!

Island Jet and Heather Hornung were the next in the dressage ring for the Baby Novice Division. Heather joins us from Washington State and she was game to ride Jet with her first month here! Jet is here in training for Mireia Brancos. The weather was so perfect that Mireia brought Jack Cameron, her newborn son and her husband Jesse to cheer Jet at his first event! Jet had a relaxed dressage test to score a 42.1, had a good show jumping with some trotting to the jumps to gain confidence, and Jet jumped right around his first x-c with an extra look at the water jump to earn one refusal. He placed 11th and had a great first time experience for both Jet and his rider. Thank you Heather for the good ride!

Abigail Horah competed at the Junior Novice Division with Snapple. They had a clean x-c with a big smile crossing the finish line. Check out the pair's jumping form in the photo!

Island Rumba owned by Sharon Clark was the next Baby Novice Horse. She's a homebred, lovely 16.3 hand bay Tb mare and Marsha rode her in her first event. She earned a 42.6 in dressage, clean show jumping with some trotting of the fences, and a Watch Out! cross country ride! Rumba cantered around her course, looking for her fences and showing exceptional talent! What a good ride for Marsha and a good job for the pair!

Anne Hambleton from Vermont with her Notable Contender was our next Baby Novice combination. She braided and won the best groomed award for this handsome Irish gelding as they earned a 38. in dressage, clean show jumping, and a big smile on the clean x-c! This talented pair placed 4th overall and will be moving up to Novice in the spring!

What a great day for eventing! The sport is a wonderful experience for horses and people- the sunny, warm weather gave us a perfect end of the season competition, eager for the next season in 2009! Thank you for all of the work and now we will practice through the winter. See you in Aiken, SC next year!!

FHI CCI*** October 15-19, 2008
Luck is with us this season with the fantastic weather! UN drew the number 1 spot to go at FHI so we trotted up for our vet inspection to start the competition! Our dressage warm up was excellent and my friend and groom, Kristen Villeneuve gave some good advice to keep our shoulder in and flying changes correct! We scored a 65.2! It was our first time in the 60's and we are aiming for the 50's next season!

The cross country had a little different track but most of it was similar to last year. It was stressful to be the first out on course and also very exciting!! I was some kind of nervous! UN was superb and jumped beautifully to go double clear! She finished ready to go again!

Thank you to Kristen, Marsha Zebley, Jean Meston, and our new working student from Washington State, Heather Hornung, for their great help in the vet box and finishing up with the washing, tack cleaning, and all of the talk! What a great time!

We trotted up for the vet inspection in fine form. UN jumped her heart out in the last show jumping test but I let her go too fast so we bam! bam! bam! the last three show jumping fences! We had four rails! We finished 23rd place and I was thrilled and determined to learn how to handle my nerves for the show jumping next year!

As we were washing UN, we were called up to the prize giving! UN was awarded the Best Conditioned Horse Award! And I was awarded the Good Sportmanship Award! We received two silver picture frames and two flowing, blue ribbons! What a good way to finish a very special season on a very special mare!! Luck is with us for sure!

Morven

UN and Jane are on the roll at Morven Park Advanced HT to jump clean!

Morven Park HT 10/3-5, 2008
UN and Rocky headed to Morven Park HT in Leesburg, VA with Kirsty Lilley, our visitor from England! The weather was gorgeous and the atmosphere was electric- perfect for our 4 yo Rocky to experience! UN had a good dressage test, we both got a little tense with her second flying change but we are improving with a score of 40.4. UN galloped around our favorite cross country course and she handled the new fences with ease and confidence. Our show jumping was a little fast and we had three rails to end the weekend with 8th place and ready for FHI CCI*** in Elkton, MD. Rocky did a combined test on Sunday. He had a good dressage test to score a 35.9 and jumped a clean show jumping. Rocky placed 2nd in his novice horse division and he'll go training this fall!

Thank you to Kirsty for her grooming and to Eileen Ball for her lovely dinner. We stayed with my mom, Christine Sleeper and moms are just perfect with all of the wonderful support! On to FHI CCI***!!

Plantation Field Horse Trials September 19, 2008
We had perfect weather and had our dressage test on Friday with the show jumping on Friday afternoon. She scored a 36 in dressage with one flying change performed that wasn't scheduled! We jumped clean over the show jumping course decorated with many pumpkins, flowers, and gourds to celebrate the beginning fall season. My turns were little wide and we earned 3 time faults in the show jumping phase!

The weather was beautiful and the footing was good for the cross country course held on Saturday September 20, 2008. UN galloped around confidently, jumped brilliantly, and we finished clean with 12 time faults. The course was excellent for me as I needed to jump the advanced jumps at a gallop! UN placed 8th overall and we are aiming for Morven Park HT October 5-7. Come say hello and cheer us onward!!

FHI Starter HT September 13, 2008.
Four four year olds competed in their first novice horse trials at FHI Starter HT. We took Rocky, Owen, Classy, Rumba, and Dubonnet. The horses stayed in the dressage ring and got more relaxed as they worked. They earned all in the high 30's for a score. Dubonnet is an older horse at 12 yo and his Oldenburg breeding helped his good movement to score a 33 in his dressage novice test.

dub

The show jumping was next and again, all of the horses had a great experience. Dubonnet jumped clear as did Classic Garden with Marsha Zebley riding. Marsha piloted Rumba around her first show jumping course with 2 rails down, Owen had one rail, and Rocky jumped clean!

Then the fun began with the cross country! Rocky, Owen's Lad and Dubonnet jumped bravely and finished clean around a encourageing novice course. Classic Garden and Rumba jumped clean with Marsha riding around the baby novice cross country. What a great day and Dubonnet won his novice horse division, Rocky was third, Classic Garden placed 6th and Rumba was 8th at her first event!

Come see this fine group of horses at Olde Hope Farm HT 10/5/08 and Plantation Field 11/02/08. We'll look for you!!

rolex

UN and Jane finish the Rolex CCI****!! Photo by Michele C. Dunn.

Rolex KY CCI****
UN completed Rolex CCI**** 2008! I was proud to finish this event, which was our third four star event. UN did not want to do dressage at Rolex. She warmed up well but went into the large arena and our nerves took over. We finished our test and looked forward to our jumping the next day.

The cross country course was technical and asked many questions of jumping at angles and on uneven terrain. UN jumped well and confidently. We found the course tiring and half way around after UN ran out on the skinny brush after the first water, I slowed down and jumped carefully back home. We cooled her down and she recovered to trot up strongly for the vet check on Sunday morning.

In the show jumping, UN tried her heart out! I lost my
rhythm on one line to the triple and she jumped me out of trouble. How lucky I am to have this talented mare and what fun she gives me! We finished in 25th place. We'll do some dressage shows this summer to help us learn to relax and be obedient. Come practice with us!

Jersey Fresh CCI***
New Moon showed his Irish breeding by splish splashing through a very wet and rainy dressage day at his CCI***. I had to gather all of my discipline to ride in the very wet sloppy footing! We rallied! We scored a 58 with a good, conservative test!

The course country course had excellent footing from all of the rain and we had a tremendous ride! 'Morris' didn't put a foot wrong and he jumped confidently and cooled out even better- diving down to eat all of that wonderful green grass! Thank you to Jean Meston and Kaity Taylor for your wonderful help with the cross country day. We jumped a clean x-c with 14 time faults!

The show jumping proved nerve racking with the warm up! I didn't give my horse a consistent, quiet warm up. We were jumping all over the ring with many different warm up jumps! I'll need to arrange a warm up crew so I can secure a more consistent warm up. We had four rails and we placed 18th overall! New Moon had an excellent weekend and we had a delightful time. He qualified for the 2008 Fall Championships at FHI!

Thank you to Paige and Chris Schwartzman for the great hospitality. May I sign up for next year already! I even got to drive a new 2008 Rabbit GTI! Almost as fast as New Moon!!!

Competition on New Year's Eve!
We took six horses and three students to jump at the Vince Dugan's Jumper Show. Marsha Zebley was home for college break and she had a great day riding our new eventor Jolliyat and New Moon.

Michele Sanders had a Reserve Champion day with Parkmore and Level 3 jumpers. And Tickle Me and Jane won two seconds with some fun jumping! Check out our schedule to see our competitions in Aiken to come cheer us onward!

Fall 2007

Vince Dugan's Jumper Show November 10, 2007
We took four horses to Vince's jumper show and the farm was hopping! Skyhook was piloted by Jane and she placed 3rd in Level I and 4th in Level 2 with four clean jumping rounds! Jacob Horah rode Hawk in three jumping classes with a clean go at the Level 2. And he rode Parkmore in Level 2 with two clean rounds but earned the big E with jumping the wrong jump in the jump off!

Ashley Sager rode her Acrobatic Champ in three classes with her Level 2 final class showing a good rhythm and feel of the canter. She flew around the final jump off, missed a fence, and earned the big E! Great ride and we'll practice with some more jumper shows this winter!

Thank you to Ashley and Jacob for the fine riding and grooming! Jacob earned a fifth place and Ashley a sixth place in their Level I Jumper class! We'll keep you posted for the upcoming jumper schooling shows this winter!

The Big Dressage Show with DVCTA November 4, 2007
UN and I dressed up in our FEI clothes of Top Hat and Tails! We rode the FEI Test of Choice at the Big Dressage Schooling Show! She was tense and a little stiff in her first test so we worked a few more minutes and returned to ride another test twenty minutes later. And UN & I were both more relaxed! We scored a 59.8% and vowed to work more on this dressage over the winter.

Willow accompanied us to the show and had a good test with a better connection. She was also more relaxed and focused! More practice this winter as well! What a fun show and we'll return for next year! Thanks to Natalya Vtorygina for her good grooming and company!

Plantation Field September 21-23, 2007
New Moon and UN did the FEI TEST Of Choice on Friday, September 21 and they both had good tests, more relaxed through their backs and scored in the 30's! Then on Saturday, New Moon scored a 34.6 to place 5th in dressage in section B of the Advanced division. He had one rail show jumping and 9.6 time faults with a clean cross country to place 2nd overall! The ground was hard and the jumps were not as large as Burghley CCI**** in early September!

Morven Park HT October 5-7, 2007
New Moon and UN visited VA for their next Advanced competition. Due to the drought conditions and the hard ground, we did the dressage and show jumping, withdrawing from the cross country competition. New Moon scored a 41.6 with dressage and one rail is show jumping. UN scored a 50 and one rail in show jumping. Morven Park is one of my favorite competitions so I hope we have better conditions in the spring!

I did not compete any of the young horses this fall due to the hard ground!

Fairhill International CCI*** October 17-21, 2007
We had a little rain the week before our Three Day and I presented both New Moon and UN for the first vet inspection! They looked fit and ready for the Test, thank you to Ashley Sager, Natalya Vtorygina, and Annie Ireland for the wonderful grooms help! New Moon went early Thursday morning for his dressage test in the heavy fog. He had a nice test with good movements to score a 58. UN did her test on Friday and had a very nice warm up. The rain came pouring down and we did our dressage in a deluge. She was more relaxed to score a 72.2. We will work on our dressage this winter! I withdrew both horses from the competition as I was sore in my left hip and wanted to give them my best ride. So we'll save our go for another day! You can catch some photos and the results on www.FairhillInternational.com.

Plantation Starter November 3, 2007
We had a good amount of rain following FHI CCI*** so the going was excellent for the Starter HT. We had eight horses and six students competing. Everyone had a good day! Congratulations to Abigail Horah and Snapple on their pre-novice dressage win and big Blue ribbon overall! Chantel Cray also grabbed the dressage win and the big Blue in her pre-novice division with a double clear cross country and show jumping. Both of these riders will move into the Novice Division for next year!

My new working student, Ashley Sager rode her five year old Acrobatic Champ in his second pre-novice! She had a good dressage test, one rail in sj, and a clean, easy x-c to place 6th overall. Good job!

Jacob Horah had two good novice rides and placed 7th overall with Hawk and 6th with Zeus. Henrietta Bright had a busy day with Tickle Me in the Training Rider division to place 4th overall with a double clear x-c and show jumping. Then she hacked Piper from his stabling and Piper placed 3rd overall in his very first event at the Elementary Division. Well done!

And Willow and I went Training Horse with a good dressage test, clean x-c and sj to place 3rd overall! What a great end to the Fall Season! We have a few more cross country schools, Vince Dugan's Jumper Show and St.Augustine's Dressage Derby on December 2, 2007. May the season never end!!

UNO had her first bath and was braided for the class. Wuf (known as Carpe Diem to his friends!) came as chaperone!

There were 18 entries and Denis Glacuum judged the young horses! We had a great time and UNO was pretty impressed with the crowd and the ring. A good time was had on a gorgeous fall day! Natalya Vtorygina was the assistant. Thank you to all!

burgh2

The final salute in the dressage test at The Burghley CCI**** in Stamford, England. UN's face says it all! 'When do we jump?" Photo by shawshot.

UN is now a real 4* horse! She galloped around the most difficult cross country course we've ever jumped! You must see the photo of me losing the reins completely at the first water jump when I pecked forward! It was so exciting! UN galloped through the water with the reins dangling around her front feet, she turned left and jumped out of the water and I was able to grab the reins!! I got organized and we continued on around the course with a technical refusal at that water as our only jumping penalties! It was easy for her and I was along for the ride!

Our dressage test needs more submission and harmony so we'll work on that this fall/winter. And we'll jump more show jumping so I give her a better ride! And I've got some interest in selling her so we have so many adventures happening! UN is back home and what a trip we had! Thank you to all of my help and supporters for such an opportunity! And cheers to Bruce Davidson and Jam! They placed 10th overall with a beautiful, clean show jumping round on the final day!

I especially thank my friend and co-owner Tamsin Thurlow for her great help at Burghley as the best groom extraordinaire, the transport, and the friendship!

Come say hi at our fall competitions and Onward!

Plantation Field Starter Horse Trials June 10, 2007
We had seven horses at the starter and we had a fun day! Kelly and Jane started the training division with a score of 37.5, Maca and Marsha Zebley 38. and Tickle Me finished the division with a 38. Maca had a rail in show jumping and a good cross country. Kelly lost a shoe so we had to scratch both of the jumping tests. Tickle Me jumped a double clear to place 3rd overall!

In the novice division, Jacob Horah rode Zeus and Hawk. He scored a 37.5 with Zeus and a 44.5 with Hawk, had a double clear with both horses, and placed 5th with Zeus and 7th with Hawk. A great day! And Abigail Horah rode Snapple to a 3rd overall with a 35.3 in dressage and a double clear!

We love the starter horse trials!

Jersey Fresh CCI***

Looking thin, fit, and ready for his Three Day! Morris, sleep, and our groom Ashley Steele packed up all the feed and gear and headed over to the New Jersey Horse Park. We presented New Moon for his first vet inspection and he looked the part for his second three day three star at the age of nine!

For the dressage test, Morris was obedient and precise. I needed to ask for more engagement and for him to flow over his back- more projects to work on this summer!

The cross country course had many new jumps and it was the best track I've seen there. I was concerned about the extreme heat and the hard ground with our first walk. Luckily, the ground was aerated and it rained two nights so the footing improved tremendously for the cross
country ride!

Morris jumped great and he handled himself well. As we turned into Fence 17 A, a log on a bump, I said 'whoa' to steady him, I lost impulsion, and we stopped at the fence! All of my fault for not riding forward! I circled quickly and Morris jumped in good form to finish with 8 time
faults. Morris recovered quickly and we had the superb help of Phyllis Dawson and her Windchase Team! Ashley did a great job keeping everyone organized and New Moon was thinner and happy. Check out his photo of his skinny self taken by Phyllis Dawson right when he was in front of the large fans provided by Jersey Fresh to help the horses cool out!

Sunday morning was a busy one with a quick hack out to loosen up the two of us! We trotted up for the vet inspection and we were passed onto the show jumping test!

The course was colorful, with many turns, and roll backs. I walked the course three times to be sure I knew where I was going! Morris warmed up a little backward so I galloped around and we did a good warm up. We jumped well and lowered three fences! We placed 28th in our second CCI*** and I was so pleased with his performance and good attitude. Thank you to everyone who helped make our three day happen. And thank you to Chris and Paige Schwartzman for their lovely hospitality and the use of the fabulous car!

Spring 2007

Plantation Field 5/12-13/2007
This event was our last advanced HT before our CCI*** at Jersey Fresh. New Moon did the 2005 FEI Advanced Test A for his dressage test. He had more confidence and a better contact- we scored a 34.2!

Show jumping was held next. The course was large, twisting, and had many turns. New Moon tried hard and jumped well- we lowered two rails! Cross country was the next day and we galloped around the course clean with 10 time faults. I was thrilled with him and we are ready for Jersey Fresh CCI***. New Moon placed 5th overall in his advanced division.

Ashley Steele rode Parkmore in the open novice division and earned a 33 in dressage, a clean show jumping, and a very clean cross country to place 3rd overall!

Thank you for everyone for their help so we could go participate! Kristen Villeneuve groomed for us with help from Jacob Horah, Kristen's parents, David and Brenda provided the housing, Natalya Vtorygina kept the barn at home running with help from Michele Sanders, Henrietta Bright, Chantel Cray, Annie Ireland, and Kristy Shaeffer. And we couldn't have moved without the excellent packing of Ashley Steele and Sarah Fletcher. WoW! Look at all the support it took! Did I mention that UN is a really nice Four Star Horse??

March 31-April 1, 2007

Ashley Steele, Jane, and three horses traveled to Leesburg, VA for the Morven Park HT. We had 12 entries in the Advanced division so the scheduling was very tight- New Moon had a good dressage test but wasn't completely focused to score a 41.7. UN and Willow were tense and scored in the 50's. New Moon jumped a clean advanced show jumping and we were thrilled! UN had a couple of rails in the show jumping and I'll warm her up longer for The Fork! Morven Park offered only the Intermediate cross country so I withdrew UN and New Moon jumped confidently but we ran past 4B, a corner after a log on a bump! Gotta work on those lines! Willow had a good show jumping and had a very fluid cross country so she's ready for her move-up to Intermediate at The Fork.

Onward to The Fork in Norwood, NC! Thank you to Ashley Steele and Eillen Ball for their great help over the weekend!

Pine Top Farm Advanced HT March 3,4, 2007
UN and New Moon headed to Georgia with Ashley Steele as the important groom, supporter and Sleeper as the rider!

New Moon made the first day very exciting with a tie for first place in dressage with a score of 30.0! He jumped a big show jumping track and lowered one rail for 4 faults added! UN improved her dressage test as she progressed with a score of 38.8 and knocked down the last show jumping fence for 4 faults added!

The second day was the first advanced cross country competition for the 2007 season and it was a fine track! The jumps were inviting and there were many combinations and narrow fences to help riders/horses sharpen their skills!

My goal was to jump clean with both horses and boy, we reached our goal! New Moon went first of the two and he jumped bravely around the course. We went conservatively so we added 15.2 time faults and we were clean cross country. New Moon placed 4th overall! UN had the most super ride! She jumped brilliantly- she was very eager and I had to persuade her to slow down with 6.4 time faults. She placed 3rd overall and we are psyched for Morven Park HT!

We are in Aiken, SC with some lovely horses for sale!
Come see them compete and ride them! Parkmore, Caveat, and Tucker have jumped several clean cross country and Caveat is a packer novice and training AND he can compete well with the preliminary division! A great ride for a YR or amateur. Tucker is the ultimate YR horse and he's doing his job well! UN and New Moon are the two Advanced horses who will start the season at Pine Top Intermediate on February 17-18. Tune in next week for the results!

Winter 2006

Full Gallop Farm had their second horse trials on February 14, 2007
Tickle Me, Caveat, Parkmore, and Sam I Am all went prelim and placed in the top ten! The weather was cold and windy but we galloped and jumped in the sandy soil. Tucker XIV did his second training horse trials and won the dressage with a 32.5! We had 2 time faults in show jumping with a clean round and a clean cross country to place 4th overall! And for ribbons, Parkmore and Ashley Steele were 6th, Sam and Kristy were 9th, Tickle Me placed 6th with Jane and Caveat placed 7th! A great event with good results from our training here in Aiken! On to Pine Top Farm in Georgia!

Sporting Days February 9 & 10 2007
What a great day was had by the Sleeper preliminary Team! Everyone jumped clean cross country with Tickle Me having a double clear! Caveat, known to his friends as Kelly, scored the upset dressage win with a 32.3! Kelly jumped a clean x-c with a few time faults and a 4 fault show jumping to place 5th overall in his first preliminary event! Ashley Steele and Parkmore placed 6th overall in their first prelim in the Junior Preliminary with a clear show jumping added to their clear x-c! Kristy Shaeffer and Sam I Am placed 7th overall in their first clear cross country at the preliminary level! The footing was good with the sand and the show jumps were colorful. What a good result for our big trip to South Carolina! Yahoo to all and especially to our great working student who helped groom and made the day easier, Grace Wheeler!

Good luck to the cross country school next week and onward to Full Gallop Farm, our second preliminary competition on February 14!

Here's the news from Aiken, SC
February 3 & 4

We made it to Full Gallop Farm in Aiken, South Carolina. We braved through the cold weather and were rewarded with a 70 degree day with sunshine and our first event! It was at Full Gallop Farm and all folks had a good school for the preliminary divisions for the next weekend! Caveat and Jane had a good dressage, sj, and cross country and so did Ashley Steele and Parkmore! Ashley and Tucker will work on balancing that gallop cross country and Kristy Shaeffer on Sam I Am will work on shortening her horse's huge gallop into combinations.

New Moon placed 3rd overall in his first preliminary HT of the season and Caveat was 7th. Onward to Sporting Days next weekend!

Plans for the Winter Training Season!
We are entered in a clinic with Anne Kursinski on December 2 & 3 and we are preparing for a cross country school at Rubicon Farm in December too!

We will do some jumper shows and practice those dressage moves at some schooling shows so check in with us and come train with us! We will do some lessons at Fox Crossing's fabulous indoor ring so come join us! And we are hoping to go to Aiken, SC in February so keep in touch and come cheer us onward! We'll have a schedule asap! And we adore more friends to come train with us!

Autumn 2006

Rubicon HT November 12, 2006
Ashley Steele, Parkmore, Caveat, and I trucked down to Leesburg, VA to out last event of the year! As we crossed into VA, the rains poured down and we pulled into the grounds amidst sleeting rain and sopping wet footing! Ashley and I walked the show jumping and cross country courses and we were wading in ankle deep water. Ashley gamely rode Parkmore in a good dressage test and we cheered Michele Saunders and Tessa in their dressage test! Then the event was canceled and we headed to IHOP for breakfast with eventing friends before our three hour drive home! What a wash out and what a way to end our season! Onto the winter training and we are eager for the next season to begin already.

Plantation Field Starter HT
November 4, 2006

We had a gorgeous day for the last starter horse trial of the year! Ashley Steele rode Parkmore to second place in Training Rider and Dutch Wonder placed 4th in his second training event! Henrietta Bright and Caveat had a clear x-c to place 5th overall in the novice division. Kerri Healy and Branch had a good day with their first novice ht, Jacob Horah placed 8th with Hawk and Abigail Horah jumped a clean x-c with Snapple! We'll train this winter with that elusive dressage to improve our scores for next year!

Fairhill CCI***
October 18-22, 2006

New Moon and UN had their last gallop on Tuesday and we headed to Elkton, MD for our Advanced Fall Championships held at Fairhill International CCI***. I asked Buck Davidson to ride New Moon to give the young horse a good ride around his second CCI*** and I rode UN.

UN had a more relaxed dressage test without any mistakes to score a 68.7! I was thrilled! Buck and Morris had a pleasant test to score a 59.1, placing 11th out of 60 starters. We were onto cross country! The cross country course was wet with some deep mud in places. UN was 25th to go and jumped confidently. We finished right on the optimum time of 10 minutes! No penalties! Double clear round!

Morris jumped a little green at the Loon into the water at fence five and then he jumped strongly onward! He became very tired, trotted the second to last fence, and fell down. Luckily both Buck and Morris were okay and we went back to the barn happy to have another chance on another day! UN was presented to the Ground Jury Sunday morning for the vet inspection. She felt great and strutted her stuff, showing her strong trot to the judges!

The show jumping course was big, turning, and the sun was shining! We jumped in reverse order of placing and UN jumped in tenth place. We had one rail and we moved into 9th place overall! What a weekend! Thank you to Ashley Steele and Kerri Healy for the good grooming. And to Natalya Vtorygina and Michele Saunders for the great help at the barn! And a special thank you to Dr. Brendon Furlong and staff for their help with the horses. On to Rolex!

NJ Horsepark HT on October 14, 2006
Magic Monkey tied for second in the open training division and Dutch Wonder with Ashley Steele placed 7th in the open training. Caveat scored a 35 in dressage. It's on to Rubicon HT in November!

Morven Park CCI* and Advanced HT October 5-8, 2006
We had some wet, rainy weather at Morven Park! Willow did her first CCI* and was very impressed with the dressage and the atmosphere! We scored an 85. in dressage with some very explosive canter work! Willow galloped and jumped beautifully on the endurance day! On the third day, Willow trotted up to pass the vet check and jumped a gorgeous show jumping round to place 11th overall.

Willow was one of seven horses out of 80 to jump a double clear! Sharon Clark, her breeder and owner, came out in the pouring rain to cheer us on! Great fun was had by all! UN and New Moon were withdrawn due to the deep footing for cross country. UN did the dressage with a 37.6 and a clean show jumping! On to FHI CCI*** with UN and New Moon!

Thank you to Eileen Ball and Rocky Robinson for their excellent hospitality at Old Oaks! Dinner was delicious! And a big Thank You to Kristy Shaeffer and Ashley Steele for the fine grooming jobs! We could not do this without you both! And thank you for Morven Park for holding a full format Three Day! It's so important for the horses and riders to experience the Three Day!

Marsha Zebley and Bubba completed their first CCI* with an outstanding performance in the Young Rider Prelim. Due to the rain and footing, the steeplechase was cancelled but Marsha and Bubba jumped a double clear cross country! Congratulations to them for such a good job and good luck at college this year, UVM!

Flora Lea HT September 30, 2006
Ashley Steele had a great day x-c with a clean and fast ride with Parkmore! They had a forward moving dressage test to score a 46, one rail in sj, and we left before the results were finalized so we'll have to find out! Caveat, nickname Kelly, had a good dressage test of 33, double clear x-c, and one stop in sj to place 2nd overall in his first recognized training event. Monkey Magic closely followed Caveat with a 36 in dressage, double clear x-c, and one rail in sj to place 3rd overall. Thank you to Ashley for riding well and grooming too!

Plantation Field September 23-24, 2006
New Moon and UN had their second Advanced HT to prepare for FHI CCI*** in October. UN had a good dressage test, got a little tense with her flying changes to score a 37.6, one rail in sj, and I missed a fence line in x-c and we had to represent! She had a good run cross country! New Moon scored a 40.1 in dressage, 2 rails sj for 8 penalties, and a clean x-c with 6 time faults. He jumped well and enjoyed his cross country! Thank you to Tamsin Thurlow for her fine company and good grooming!

Parkmore and Ashley Steele competed in Training Rider with some grand cheering from her father, visiting from Milford, NH! They scored a 50.5 in dressage, clean x-c, one rail in sj to place 5th overall. Yahoo and good job! Onward to Morven Park!

FHI Starter Horse Trial September 17, 2006
While I celebrated my mom's 90 birthday with 90 red roses, Kristen Villeneuve drove my van with Ashley Steele and Kerri Healy to compete at FHI in Elkton, MD. Footloose and Kristen won the dressage with a 32.5 and didn't add any penalties to win the novice division! Ashley with her homebred mare Steelmagnolia was second in the novice with a 37 in dressage, one rail in sj and a clean x-c. Kerri and Branch, another homebred from Sharon Clark and related to Willow, jumped a double clear with x-c and sj to place 5th with a 47 in dressage. Come cheer for these teams at the Plantation Starter on November 4, 2006!

Seneca Valley September 9, 2006
Tickle Me, Willow, and Ashley Steele traveled with me to compete at a new event for us! And it was well worth the trip to VA! The cross country was big and galloping, an excellent last event before Morven Park. Willow had a good dressage, one rail in sj and a clean x-c to place 7th overall. Tickle Me had a clean sj and a green cross country but clean to also place 7th! What a fun event and we'll go back next year!

Ashley Steele did a great job as groom and organizer! She's a working student with me and is riding, competing, and working towards her A Pony Club Test. On to her preliminary horse trials this fall and great riding! Thank you for the good grooming job!

Ludwigs Horse Show September 4, 2006
We had another beautiful day for the jumper show at Ludwig's Corner. We took four horses and had a grand time. New Moon jumped a double clear of the day in the preliminary jumper, Tickle Me and Willow had one rail in the jump off. We visited the show vendors and watched all of the adorable ponies. It is a fun family show with good jumper classes. Thank you to Kerri Healy and Ashley Steele for grooming!

Summer 2006

Hound Jogging with Cheshire Hounds
July and August 2006

We arrive at 7:00 am at the Cheshire Kennels to go hound jogging with the foxhounds. We went on Tuesday, Thursdays, and some Saturdays according to our competition schedule for the summer. The horses learn to cope with the foxhounds, the many other horses, and the atmosphere!

This is a great opportunity for both horses and riders to gain experience by riding in a large group. And it's a good time to meet new friends and greet some old ones! The country is rolling hills with many water crossings, woods, and open
fields. We are able to jump some of the hunt jumps and everyone has the experience of dealing with the horses waiting for the jumps, over the jumps, and handling the horse after the jumps! And did I mention the thrill of galloping up and down the rolling hills- it is a thrill! Everyone enjoyed the hound jogging this summer and we are looking forward to next year!

Waredaca August 20, 2006
Tickle Me and Willow did their 3rd prelim horse trial and have one more to do to qualify for Morven Park CCI*. Tickle took a hard look at the water fence and we jumped it the second time! Willow jumped clean x-c and placed 5th overall. On to Morven Park CCI*!

Millbrook HT August 10-13, 2006

Dutch Wonder traveled to NY for the Young Event Horse 4 yo class. He did a forward dressage test to place 3rd, moved up to 2nd with a bold x-c jumping test, and placed 5th overall with the conformation and suitable to become an advanced horse. He had a wonderful weekend away from home and showed his brilliance in his movement and jumping. He'll go novice again then on to training for the fall season!

"Junior" is bred and owned by Eileen Ball. He had his first recognized novice event and the fans were out to cheer them onward! Danielle had a good dressage test, rode a clean show jumping, and galloped easily over the cross country course! Everyone was so pleased and good luck to Danielle! Eileen and her newborn son, Riley came out to cheer us on and watch Junior do his stuff. What a fun weekend!

Marsha Zebley rode Monkey Magic in the training event and placed ninth with a good dressage 34, clean sj, and one stop on x-c. She also rode Parkmore to a clean sj and x-c in the Novice level! What a fun weekend and check back with us for Millbrook HT in two weeks!

Let's enter Plantation Field Starter on July 29 and ride even better!

Maryland Horse Trials, July 15, 2006.
It was hot and the x-c course was perfect for my first time preliminary mares! Tickle Me had a tough dressage, clean show jumping, and one stop x-c when we were too fast through a turning fence and we missed it! Willow had a better dressage test, a tough show jumping- we couldn't agree on how to turn to a skinny jump and we missed it the first time! However, she jumped well x-c and had 4.2 time faults. Tickle was 11th and Willow 13th overall.

Marsha Zebley and her Bubba had their first prelim outing of the year. She had a good dressage, a few rails in sj (we need to work on that
powerful canter!), and a clean x-c! The pair placed 7th overall in the Junior OP. Good job for the first time out! We are right back at MHT the next weekend and we are planning on better performances! Stop by and say 'Hi!'

Plantation Field HT
June 6, 2007
What a gorgeous day for the starter horse trials and we had a great day! Moose won his first training event with a dressage score of 31 and double clear sj and x-c! Kristy Sheaffer was 2nd with Sam I AM and Tickle Me/Sleeper riding was 3rd. Marsha Zebley was third place with both of her rides! Jersey Fresh CCI***
June 4 thru 6, 2007

New Moon and UN had a wet weekend for their Three Star event in NJ. New Moon had a good dressage score with a beautiful walk and good canter work for a score of 51.7. Buck Davidson rode him very well cross country in the deep going and jumped his show jumping with a qualifying score of 4 rails to place 6th overall. What a job well done to place in his first CCI*** at eight years old! UN and Jane had a 69. qualifying score in dressage and withdrew for the cross country because of the very wet and deep going. Onward to Fairhill CCI*** and both advanced horses are for sale! Please check with Jane and we'll have photos up as soon as possible!

Spring 2006

Plantation Field on May 13 & 14
We had great weather! We finally had some rain so the footing was better. Jane rode UN in dressage and show jumping in the advanced division. We did the FEI CCI*** Test B which we will ride at Jersey Fresh so it was good practice! UN was fairly tense but was more relaxed to score a 46.1 and jumped a clean show jumping. I did not run her cross country and opted for a Mother's Day dinner in New York City! Buck Davidson rode New Moon for me. They had a good dressage test with a score of 37.0. Morris jumped a show jumping with two rails and a clean cross country with 9 time faults to place 6th overall. Well done Buck and on to Jersey Fresh!

MCTA HT on May 5 & 6
This was another new advanced competition. It is located at Shawan Downs in Cockeysville, MD, and is a beautiful equestrian site that hosts steeplechases, races, horse shows, and eventing. UN and Jane had a good dressage test with some tension in the canter work, a clean show jumping, and a very brave cross country with 20 time faults. The course rode quite tough with a good deal of turning and UN had a difficult time, she jumped clean but with some hard work! I decided to withdraw New Moon from the cross country as he is eight years old and needs a more positive course. New Moon was very feeling fit for his dressage and inserted some squeals and bucks in his test. He jumped his show jumping with two rails and a good effort over a difficult tract. We were driving home from the event and I found out that UN had won the competition! WoW! I was so proud of her! Thank you to Danielle for the great grooming

April 30, 2006 St. Augustine HT, MD
This was our first competition for the young horses. Moose did his first event at the novice level with Jane riding. He had an obedient dressage test, clean show jumping and cross country to place 2nd overall! Tickle Me (Sleeper was the jockey) was impressed with the atmosphere and couldn't concentrate in her dressage, jumped well in the sj, and clean x-c to place 4th. Danielle Feiner rode Junior in his first event at the pre-novice level and he was a star! He had a good dressage test, one rail in sj, and clean cross country to place 2nd overall. We will go back to this event to school x-c- what great fun

Southern Pines Horse Trials
March 17-1, 2006
The event season started at Southern Pines Horse Trials March 17-19 in Raeford, NC! UN, New Moon, and Willow shipped down with Danielle Feiner and Jane. Danielle did an excellent job grooming and helping to navigate our trip to the Carolina Horse Park! All of the horses had a good weekend with a good dressage test, clean and conservative time cross country and a good show jumping round! New Moon led the group with placing 13th in the Open Intermediate Division, UN jumped into 17th place, and Willow placed 10th in her open training division. We stabled next to Doug Eaton, from MD, and he took some fine action shots which you can see below. What fun.

Early Spring 2006 Notes
Spring is here and we're excited about our eventing and show jumping! We've had some good rounds at the indoor jumper shows with the young horses. Tickle Me jumps clear, fast, and earns a ribbon every time! And Willow is right next to her with her good jumping form! UN won her Modified Jumper class and Moose is learning fast how to balance in his canter.

UN and New Moon start the season with Southern Pines Horse Trials and they are Advanced horses for sale. We have a good group of young horses for sale so take a look! Please check out these wonderful sales horses and give me a call/email if I can be of help!

I've met some good working student candidates for the summer. I offer a program of lunging, riding, some book work, and lot of competing so come join us!

We had some winners today at Plantation Field! Kristy Sheaffer riding Sam I Am in the Training Horse division won the blue ribbon and Abigail Horah on Snapple won her Elementary division with a 30 in dressage! Jane rode Codered to a fifth in the training and Parkmore placed ninth after over jumping a huge brush fence and flying Jane to the ground! The ground was soft, I jumped up, caught the steed and finished the course! Kelly then did his first novice horse trials and after a 34.5 in dressage, one rail in sj, and clean x-c he placed 7th overall. Jacob Horah moved Hawk into the pre-novice division and jumped a clean sj and x-c! Well done! Rachel Evangelstia rode Oliver to 10th place in the pre-novice division and she was catch riding as Carpe Diem took a break! Thank you Rachel for the good grooming help as well! Rachel and Oliver looked great going cross country!

Morven Park HT October 1-2, 2005 results:
My favorite cross country course kept me riding hard at Morven Park! UN and New Moon galloped around the hard ground with some time faults with UN jumping clean and Morris having a one stop at the water. The show jumping was the biggest we've jumped and Morris out jumped UN with two rails as UN had four rails- she was ready to go cross country again!

UN placed 6th overall and New Moon was 10th! I was so pleased and I thank Kristy Sheaffer for her good help and Eileen Ball/Rocky Robinson for their warm hospitality! And Eileen's homebred beauty, Maca had a great YEH 5 Year Old Championship! Look for a photo soon of her terrific jumping form- 'great use of her back and very scopey' were her comments from the Irish judge George Mernagh. Watch this attractive gray mare compete in her training events this fall!

FHI Starter Event update! September, 18, 2005
Charmaine van Aswegen helped me out for a month this fall! She's from South Africa and she rode Kelley at their first event. They had a good dressage, clean x-c, and two rails in sj to place 8th overall. Charmaine had a great visit with some hound jogging, x-c schooling, a jumper show, and dinner in Philadelphia. Good luck with your riding at home and thank you for your terrific help!

Kristy Sheaffer rode her Partner in his first horse trials and had a very fun day! Thank you for the help and transport Kristy!! And Kristy and Sam completed their fourth preliminary with a good dressage, one stop cross country, and one rail in sj to place 8th overall at Flora Lea HT 10/2/05. On to Waredaca Training 3D! Good luck!
